Piedmont Augusta, founded in 1818 and formally University Hospital, is the oldest and largest hospital in our
region and the second oldest in Georgia. This 812-bed, not-for-profit community hospital provides acute-care
services and encompasses two campuses, including Piedmont Augusta Summerville Campus, and serves 25 counties across
two states. The hospital joined the Piedmont family on March 1, 2022, and leads the region in safety, quality and
price transparency. In addition to improving the health of those we serve, Piedmont Augusta gives back to our
community in other ways, including contributing more than $1 billion annually to our community and providing
more than $41 million in indigent and charity care.
Piedmont Augusta continues to train tomorrow’s caregivers, spending nearly $20 million in 2021 for our School of Radiography,
School of Cardiovascular Technology and interns and residents. Piedmont Augusta has set itself apart with quality and
safety awards and accreditations covering our comprehensive heart and vascular care, orthopedics, neurosciences, bariatrics
and weight management, cancer services, minimally invasive surgeries and obstetrics and gynecology.
